As a locally based Consultant Clinical Oncologist, now retired, David provides the hospice with expert direction across the broad spectrum of issues it faces year on year.

Reg is a trained accountant, recently retired following a successful career as a partner with KPMG. His broad range of management, strategic and business advisory skills are widely used within the hospice and its lottery company.

Janet was a consultant Paediatrician at New Cross Hospital for 25years. Now retired she is a Non Executive Director on the RWHT Board and Chair of Governors at Penn Hall Special School. She has strong interests in education and training regionally, nationally and internationally and continues to be active in this role.

Frances has an impressive background within the NHS. After moving to Wolverhampton in 1981, she worked as a Senior Nurse Tutor before taking up position as Research & Development Officer in 1984. In 1989 she became Chief Nurse Adviser for Wolverhampton Health Authority before moving to the post of Director of Nursing and Quality in 1993 for the newly created Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals Trust. Frances retired from the NHS in 2000 but continues to share her vast experience, from being a member of several different Boards within the NHS, with Compton Hospice.

Lived in Wolverhampton for 45 years before moving to Bridgnorth. Married with 2 children. Degree in biological sciences from B’ham University. Taught biology before starting a family and helping to set up and run husband’s photographic business. Served on various committees in Wolverhampton and Bridgnorth with their related fund raising (including for Compton Hospice). Past President of W’ton Inner Wheel Club. Sits on the Wolverhampton Bench in both Adult & Family courts. Interests include family, boating, morganeering (it’s a car), gardening and the arts.

John came to Wolverhampton in 1968 and has worked in health service management until his retirement as Secretary to The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust. He has qualifications in Health Management and Law.

  • Jeremy was a member of the steering committee that founded the concept of Compton Hospice and was also Chairman of the commissioning team that was responsible for its commencement in 1982

Jeremy is a qualified nurse and has been involved in healthcare for more than 40 years, running his own private nursing home from 1969 until his retirement in 1998. His background has proved invaluable to the hospice and he regularly attends the Patient Care sub-committee of the Strategic Management and Development Committee, as well as getting involved in various fundraising activities.

Professor Linda Lang is currently Dean of the School of Health and Wellbeing at the University of Wolverhampton. She has wide international experience in Health and Social Care including India and USA. Her expertise, in relation to Compton Hospice, is Education, Staff Wellbeing and Workforce Development.

As director of an electrical manufacturing business in Wolverhampton, Sumana has vast commercial knowledge and offers advice on employment issues in particular to the hospice. She also takes a specific interest in fundraising activities, having originally been a member of the Central Support Group. She regularly attends the Marketing and Community Relations sub-committee of the Strategic Management and Development Committee.

Ian is a qualified chartered accountant who worked for Deloitte & Touche in Birmingham until his retirement in Autumn, 2004. Ian specialised in the charity sector and privately managed businesses and, as senior audit manager, was responsible for the audit of Compton Hospice since its inception in 1982. He brings a wealth of financial expertise and general business acumen to the hospice.

Ron joined Compton Hospice originally in July 1997 as Business Director and was appointed the organisation’s first Chief Executive in December 2006. He is directly accountable to the Chairman of the Hospice.

He assumes overall responsibility and accountability for the leadership and management of the organisation. The organisation comprises the hospice charity and its trading subsidiaries, Compton Hospice Trading Limited and Compton Hospice Promotions Limited. The principal function of the Chief Executive is to give strategic direction and leadership in the setting and achieving of the organisation’s philosophy, policies and objectives, as approved by the Board of Trustees.

Ron has reporting directly to him, the Medical Director and Director of Nursing and Education and additionally various other Heads of Departments within the organisation.

Ron qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1975 with E & Y and immediately prior to joining Compton spent over 10 years as the Finance Director of a fully listed quoted midlands based PLC, thereby gaining extensive commercial and general business experience and knowledge.

Katrina joined Compton Hospice in January 2002 as Director of Nursing and Education.  She is responsible for all the hospices clinical services (with the exception of the medical team), education, hotel services and estates management.  Her primary function is to ensure the provision of good quality care to patients and families in a safe environment.

Katrina has over 30 years experience in nursing within oncology, palliative care, nursing developments and professional regulation.  She is currently working towards her Doctorate in Palliative Care with Lancaster University and the International Observatory of End of Life Care.

Dr Pearson has been the Medical Director of Compton Hospice since 1996. She originally trained at Birmingham University Medical School and then worked as a doctor in various hospitals in the West Midlands . She spent several years working as a GP before training and working as a consultant in Palliative Medicine.
