Make A Will Week

Monday October 05, 2009 to Saturday October 10, 2009

Local solicitors from across the region are offering their services at a reduced rate, to raise money for Compton Hospice.

From the 5-10 October 2009, local solicitors will be supporting Compton Hospice Make a Will Week. This is a great opportunity to get your affairs in order whilst helping to support the patients and families cared for by Compton Hospice.

In the UK 64% of parents and nearly a quarter of pensioners have yet to write a will and inheritance planning is far from a priority for many, though everything from your property to your business will be affected. Making a will brings security and peace of mind, not just to you but to those you love.

The twelve participating solicitors have chosen to support Compton Hospice by reducing the costs of their standard/basic will writing service and also make a donation to Compton during Will Week. If the will is not standard, for example involves tax, specialised legal advice or trusts, the solicitor will be happy to advise and agree a separate fee.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Why should I make a Will?

It's the only way to be certain that your money and belongings go to the people you care about. As well as helping your family and friends, you're giving yourself peace of mind.

2. What is a basic Will?
For the purposes of ‘Will Week’ a basic Will is for anyone leaving their assets to family members, friends and perhaps a legacy to charity. It also includes provisions for the guardianship of children.

3. When do I need to make a Will?
If you do not have a Will in place then the answer is now! You also need to make sure that your Will is up to date, for example, when you get married, buy a property, have children, or get divorced. If your circumstances changed but you hadn't amended your will your old Will would still be valid.

4. What will it cost me?
Instead of charging their normal fee for drawing up a basic Will participating Solicitors have agreed the set fee of £60 of which at least 50% will come to Compton Hospice. This fee is only available when booked as part of the Will Week Campaign.

5. Can the Solicitor come to my place of work?
Some of the participating Solicitors are willing to come to a place of work to see a group of employees.
