Our Appeal
Compton Hospice “Text £1 Appeal” and Fun Day
Text £1 Appeal

Here at Compton Hospice, we appreciate that times are hard. The donations we receive to continue the work of the hospice, are already down on last year by 50%, so we know all too well that money is short.
We believe that even in these difficult times, people are able to spare just £1 to help their local charity and we are therefore launching our “Text £1 Appeal” which will run until August 2010.
For this appeal, we are asking all of our supporters out there, to
text the word “Compton” to the number 81400
and that, really is that! You will be charged £1 plus your standard network rate and Compton Hospice will receive approximately 60p from each message sent.
Over the coming months, we want to spread the word to as many people as possible that if thousands of individuals simply text us just £1, it will help to support the hospice over this difficult period.
We hope that people holding events such as quiz nights, dinners, pub events, and so on will use this as a fundraising tool – its takes less than 2 minutes to get everyone attending to just text “Compton” to 81400 – and already people will have added £100’s to help support people with a life-limiting illness and their relatives or carers.
Text £1 Fun Day June 2010

In June 2010 we propose to hold a “Text £1 Fun Day” at West Park in Wolverhampton. On the day we are currently planning to have many events and activities going on, such as:
- It’s a Knockout (using all the original, authentic BBC props and games)
- Sponsored Memory Walk
- Craft and Bric a Brac Stalls
- Possible “Midnight Walk”
- Stalls selling goods from our 18 charity shops
- Local radio Roadshow with live broadcasting
- Various displays and shows, such as Dance or Archery displays, Dog Shows
- Live bands
- Pig Roast and other Refreshments
- Competitions
- Children’s Rides
- And much, much more!
Entrance will be free but we are will be encouraging everyone at the event or listening on the radio to “Text £1” towards our appeal. We hope that other members of the public, including community groups, associations, businesses and so on, will hold their own fundraising events and donate a cheque to our appeal on the day, live on radio!
In short, we want to stage our very own mini “Comic Relief” or “Band Aid” day, when everyone can rally behind their local charity!
We will post more details of this event, when they are finalized, but please watch this space and contact us now using the link below if you can offer your help by

- pledging to hold an event,
- offering to perform at the event,
- booking a stall,
- as a business, enlisting for It’s a knockout,
- infact, whatever you can do to support us!
If you would like to start helping right now, click here to make an online donation towards the appeal, or simply text “Compton” to 81400
Thanks you so much for your support.
