£1000 Flies into Hospice Funds
A group of bus drivers in Wolverhampton were jumping for joy this week after raising a £1000 from a charity skydive.
Six employees at the National Express Wolverhampton bus garage took part in a 4,000 ft parachute jump to help raise funds for Compton Hospice. The money was presented to elated staff at the hospice earlier today. The drivers, all from the 126 route, have set themselves the target of raising 10,000 for the hospice by Autumn 2010.
Michelle Price, Events Fundraiser for Compton Hospice, said: “We would like to thank staff from National Express West Midlands for having the courage to raise such an outstanding sum of money for us. This is the first time we have had such a large group of people from the same company participate in our charity jumps.”
Bus drivers Zoe Lancaster, Richard Holdcroft, Matthew Jukes, Narinder Bhangal and Nicola Bradley performed solo jumps from Tilstock Airfield alongside Area Manager Lawrence Wilson.
The fundraising challenge was set by bus driver Dave Ellam, who has first hand experience of the care and attention of staff at Compton Hospice. Dave said:
“My father in law spent his last days at Compton Hospice and the support we received during that painful time was tremendous. They made my father feel so comfortable and helped us to manage our grief and move forward with our lives. I wanted to give something back to the Hospice and have set Wolverhampton garage the challenge of fundraising 10,000 over 12 months. The Skydive has got us off to a flying start with 1,000 in the bank!”
