2010 Virgin London Marathon

A big well done to all of our 2010 Virgin London Marathon runners.

We had nine runners supporting Compton Hospice this year after one unfortunate runner had to drop out due to injury.

For one local bobby, Kate Cullis, it was her first London Marathon. Kate, pictured here with a representative from FHM, one of her sponsors, thoroughly enjoyed the race commenting that the atmosphere was electrifying.

In contrast, London based James Hall joined us again this year, for his third consecutive marathon. Here is what James, pictured here at the 2009 marathon, had to say:

“I have been an avid supporter of Compton Hospice for many years now. I have had family members cared for by the great team that works there over the years and witnessed the work they do for those that need it most, but also the families they support. There is a genuine sense of purpose in what they do and how they go about it and I can only return the favour by supporting them in my endeavours.

I suppose I like a challenge and running 26.2 miles is certainly a challenge. This year I was passionate about running a 3hr 30mins marathon and I came in 45 seconds over! Therefore still determined and still wanting to break the 3hr 30min barrier I will be running it again in 2011 in aid of Compton Hospice. The training throughout the cold winter months never seems to get easier, but the sense of personal satisfaction and knowing you are raising money for a good cause is why I am drawn back year on year. They say a marathon begins at mile 20 and they are so very true. I suppose now having done a few I am aware when the pain really starts to kick in, but the crowds and atmosphere keep everyone going and it is extremely warming witnessing the support that all Londoners bring when they come out in mass every April to support the likes of me.”

So far James has raised over£5000 for Compton Hospice and it seems that there is no stopping him when it comes to supporting us, well done James keep up the good work.
