Compton Hospice stomps the wall in China

From 24th October to 3rd November, 10 supporters of Compton Hospice with a passion for adventure, accompanied by fundraiser Sally Woods, set off for China, with the aim of walking 85 miles along the Great Wall, and raising thousands of pounds for their favourite charity.

The challenge took place over 10 days and included walking over restored sections of the wall that are visited by thousands of people every year, as well as unrestored sections which were much more of a challenge! The weather ranged from blistering temperatures of 32 degrees Celsius to a day of strong winds and flurries of snow!

However, the group was in no mood to give in and despite everything that Mother Nature and the Great Wall threw at them, everyone managed to complete the walk without injury and were all treated to a celebration meal and a trip to the “Birds Nest” Olympic Stadium in Beijing at the end of their epic adventure.

The group have raised a fantastic £32,000 for the hospice, which will be used for the benefit of our patients and families. We send our thanks to everyone that participated in the adventure and to everyone that sponsored them, took part in a fundraising event, or supported them in any way.

Sally Woods said “This was a fantastic adventure and I feel privileged to have visited such a fascinating part of the world and be part of the world and be part of a great team of people who all had the same aim: to complete a personal challenge and raise money for a local cause. I would recommend these challenges to anyone and can guarantee you will have the experience of a lifetime”
