Gooooooood morning Vietnam!
During the 25th October to 2nd November 2009 a group of intrepid explorers headed off to the mountains of Pu Luong National Park in Vietnam for what was to become a challenge to top all challenges.
Fundraiser Michelle Price, along with two members of her family, met the five other girls who joined them, during Compton Hospice’s Inca Trail trek in 2006. They hit it off so well that they decided to take up this years challenge shortly after returning from Peru.
The challenge, which was one of Discover Adventure’s open challenges, consisted of five full days trekking of between 10km and 26km per day, through paddy fields, up steep mountain paths and through remote mountain villages. To make the trip more difficult, Vietnam suffered the worst floods in 40 years, more than 2 metres of rain in two days, which meant the once solid paths had turned into rivers of mud. The group found themselves crossing raging torrents where the rivers had risen higher than the bridges and dodging land slides.
Michelle price said “The trip was really tough but we felt a real sense of achievement completing it. The weather that we had to endure certainly made things harder, but seeing the views and Vietnamese landscape made everything worthwhile. The local people who we met in the villages were all lovely, they were kind, helpful and considering how poor they were, they were so generous and it was a real privilege to be in their presence.”
Compton Hospice would like to thank the girls for taking part in this challenge and for raising £2000.
