A local family butchers decided to celebrate its birthday by holding a BBQ in aid of Compton Hospice.

Poxons of Windmill Lane, Castlecroft, turned 50 in October and marked the occasion by giving away free hot dogs to all of the customers that have supported them over the years.

As Compton Hospice is celebrating its 25th Anniversary the same year, staff at Poxons decided to have a donations bucket along side of the BBQ, which raised £320.

Nigel Poxon, son of Dennis Poxon who founded the business in 1957, took over the shop from his father 20 years ago, continued with modernisation and helped make it in to the thriving business it is today. As well as providing the best quality local meat, poultry and game, Poxons pride themselves on their range of pies, pasties, sausage rolls, lattices, quiche and scotch eggs which are all homemade using the finest ingredients.
