- Glyn gets backing from Wolves boss Mick McCarthy.
Ex ultra distance runner Glynn Marston set himself an extraordinary challenge to raise money for Compton Hospice.
Before Glyn suffered an injury that forced him into early retirement in 2007, he had forged an outstanding running career completing almost 60 marathons worldwide including 13 consecutive London Marathons and over 40 ultra distance races including the 145 mile Grand Union Canal Race from Birmingham to London, raising thousands of pounds for charity.
As Glyn was prevented from running, a sport which he loved dearly, he decided to become an ultra distance wheelchair athlete, his first official race being the 2008 London Marathon.
After losing a close family member Glyn decided to raise funds for the hospice by completing an 140 mile wheelchair run from Compton in Berkshire to Compton Hospice.
Glyn managed to get the backing of Wolves boss Mick McCarthy, who wished him well for the trip, and started out on June 12th. After several stops to take press interviews and hold collections at Asda Stores en route, Glyn finally made it back in time to complete his last 5 miles as part of Compton Hospice’s annual sponsored walk on June 15th.

‘This is a very brave thing that Glyn has done for us, not only has he raised much needed funds but has also publicized our hospice all over the country,” commented Michelle Price, community fundraiser for the hospice
she added
“We would like to thank Glyn for all that he has done, and would like to wish him the best of luck as an ultra distance wheelchair athlete.”
