Compton Hospice set to pocket from new snooker fundraising effort

Wolverhampton's Compton Hospice is set to benefit from a fundraising break by potting up to £1,000 in a new charitable initiative by the regional snooker association.

The Staffordshire and West Midlands Billiards and Snooker Association, which represents clubs throughout Wolverhampton and the Black Country, is launching a football scratch card for all its 1,500 plus members with all the proceeds going to the city charity.

Each of the 106 teams that make up the association are set to raise £10 each through the football cards, giving Compton Hospice a possible pot worth £1,070.

Organisers of the association are calling on players to cue up with their red-dies and donate to a great cause.

“This is the first time we’ve had such a football card to raise money for a charity, we picked Compton Hospice as it’s local to us and is such a great cause,” said association chairman Bish Orszulan.

“It will also mean our members supporting Compton Hospice on an ongoing basis through this football card scheme.”

Compton Hospice community fundraiser Sally Woods said: “We’re tremendously grateful for the snooker association to raise money for us in this way, it’s great that players from teams across the area are getting involved in raising money for Compton Hospice.”

The association has already raised £250 for the charity, which was presented to Sally Woods by leaders of the association.

It is hoped that the rest of the money raised through the initiative will be presented to the hospice at the association’s annual prize giving evening at Goodyear social club on Friday 28 May, where the special guest will be former snooker world champion and current world number three Shaun Murphy.
