Guides Dress to Impress!

Sally Woods from Compton Hospice, recently visited 3rd Coseley Holy Trinity Guides to receive a donation and artwork that the Guides created for the hospice.

Verity Cox from 3rd Coseley Guides explained, “ The Girl Guide Movement initiative last year was Changing The World, designed to encourage guides to link with a charity of their choice, learn more about the charity and to support that charity.3rd Coseley Guides linked with Help the Hospices, who put us in touch with Compton, our local hospice that we wanted to learn more about”

As part of their work with the hospice, Sally Woods visited the guides and talked to them about the work of the hospice. The girls then came to the hospice to have a look around and meet some of the patients. At this point, they decided that they would like to create some artwork to decorate the hospice and each patrol subsequently designed and created a poster.

Finally, to raise money for the hospice, the girls decided to complete a sponsored Dress-a-thon! Each girl had to bring clothes and was sponsored to put on as many items as possible in 5 minutes. This turned into a great event, with lots of laughs and photos.

On 1st July, Sally went to the guides meeting to be presented with a cheque for £104 raised from the Dress-a-thon and also the artwork that each patrol created.
Sally said “ The Guides have been great to work with and it is encouraging that young people want to learn more about the hospice and find innovative ways to support us. The hospice is currently being refurnished and the artwork will be kept safe until it can be placed in the newly decorated day unit area. I hope that the Guides enjoyed working with the hospice and we are very grateful for their support.”

This year, the Girl Guiding Movement is celebrating 100 years of girl guiding and their initiative is Adventure 100. To find out more, go to www.girlguiding.org.uk
