Compton Hospice’s Big Shared Christmas Card has broken all hospice records this year.

Over 100 businesses, organisations and general members of the public opted to take part in the appeal which promoted making a donation to the hospice in lieu of sending Christmas cards to friends and colleagues.

The groups who pre registered to take part along with groups that have donated in the past to this appeal received a large Christmas card poster that could be displayed in their premises for their members to sign their festive wishes on.

This year saw a hefty rise in the number of new organisations, and departments willing to send donations instead of cards and although the hospice receives a lot of support from the staff at the Employment Section at Wolverhampton Jobcentre, it is the first time that they have been supported by the staff from Wolverhampton Benefit Delivery Centre based in Molineux House.

Simon Taylor from the Benefit Delivery Centre said: “It’s surprising how the money we spend on Christmas cards to give to our colleagues adds up.

“We raised a total of £590 and the staff were delighted to be raising money in this way.

“When we were discussing where to donate the money to, Compton Hospice was the charity we chose. We all really believe in and support the valuable work that they are doing.”

Community fundraiser at the hospice Michelle Price said: “The Big Shared Christmas Card appeal has done very well since we introduced it in 2001, but this year we’ve had an amazing response.

“The money from the staff at Jobcentre Plus has pushed us over the £9,000 mark, which is fantastic.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to everyone at Wolverhampton Benefit Delivery Centre, and to all those across the region who have donated instead of sending cards.

“Individual donations ranged from £5 to £600, and all are very much appreciated to help us maintain the services we provide to families across the Black Country facing the challenge of a life-limiting illness.”
