After their announcement that Compton Hospice had been chosen as one of their two charities of the year for 2007, staff from Lilleshall National Sports centre set straight to work.
The summer months saw the 19th century building play host to a number of events that included raffles, name the teddy competitions and table top sales.
To round the year up, the former hunting lodge and family retreat of the Duke of Sutherland, was transformed into the eerie world of the paranormal.
Three dimensional props were built and the stage was set for the biggest Halloween Party that Shropshire had seen. Over 400 witches, ghouls and goblins attended, taking part in a series of ghost walks, before relaxing with a BBQ dinner in the grave yard bar area.

Mandy Thomas, one of the organisers of the event said: “The fundraising has been such fun, especially the Halloween Party, although we were exhausted for about three days after the event.
“We chose Compton Hospice when a friend and colleagues daughter passed away in the hospice in 2006, and after the hospice provided the support they did to the family we thought it would be nice to give something back.”
Michelle Price, community fundraiser for the hospice, was presented a cheque for £1700 when she visited Lilleshall Hall on the 15th May:
“We are always grateful for donations and are especially touched when people choose to support the hospice in recognition of its wonderful support given to families and friends during difficult times.”
As well as being an award winning National centre of Excellence for many of the UK’s top sports persons, the centre is fully open to the general public and provides a base for a number of sporting clubs. Lilleshall Hall is a unique conference, banqueting and meeting venue providing high quality corporate services. The oak paneled restaurant provides an atmospheric fine dining experience and is ideal for private parties and weddings.
