Motor dealership staff get in to gear for 10-mile car pull
Staff at a car dealership are revving up for their greatest ever motoring challenge by pulling a car for 10 miles across the Black Country, to raise money for Wolverhampton's Compton Hospice
A team of 20 staff from Brindley Honda in West Bromwich, pictured right, are getting in to gear to put their feet to the floor pulling the Honda Jazz car along a route which will see them cross the region on Saturday September 11.
Taking it in turns a team of six are set the tow the near one ton car from Tipton to Compton Hospice in support of the charity’s raise the roof appeal, to redevelop patient facilities at the hospice.
The dealership staff will be accompanied by a team of supporters collecting donations along the route, which will include a stop at Wolverhampton’s Queen Square in the afternoon.
Carlo Hossack, a member of the dealer support staff, said: “We’re all looking forward to the challenge if a bit worried about it.
“We’ve all done special training by making sure we’ve taken on enough calories and bulked up sufficiently, I don’t think we’ve got any problems in putting enough weight in to the pull, whether that will get us round we’ll have to see.
“We wanted to raise money for Compton Hospice because of the superb local service they provide not simply as a hospice but for their all round palliative care.
“They’re now carrying out a refurbishment of facilities and we all felt they really deserved our support not just for the day-to-day running but to deliver a superior service which the refurbishment will provide,” he said.
Simon Cater, corporate fundraiser at Compton Hospice, said: “This is a fantastic, super human effort by the team at Brindley Honda for Compton Hospice, we are all just hoping they’re able to keep their foot on the gas and pull together for the ten miles.”
The route and timetable for the car pull is:
10.30am Depart Asda supermarket, Great Bridge
11am Arrive Morrison’s supermarket, Bilston
12.30pm Arrive Sainsbury’s supermarket St George’s Parade, Wolverhampton
2pm Arrive Queen Square Wolverhampton
3.45 Arrive Cedars, Compton Hospice
