Simon and Philip Stepp Up to the challenge!

Ben Nevis in all its Glory

On 29th September 2006, local man Philip Stepp and his partner’s son Simon Hughes, donned their walking boots and rucksacks with one thing on their minds. Their mission for that foggy autumn day was to climb Britain’s highest mountain in aid of Compton Hospice. Ben Nevis, or the ‘Ben’ as it is fondly known locally, sits at the head of Loch Linnhe, its presence dominating the landscape. The dramatic effect of Ben Nevis, is emphasised by the fact that it begins its rise from sea-level to tower 4,406ft (1,344m) above the town of Fort William. Philip and Simon set off at 10.20 in the morning and returned to where they had started at 5.45 in the evening, completing the whole climb in seven hours and twenty five minutes. Compton Hospice would like to thank the duo for raising an amazing £2382 through sponsorship from friends, and colleagues at Newell Palmer Associates.
