Compton Hospice ‘scores’ with latest donation
Compton Hospice has netted a generous donation from bosses at Wolves.
Chief Executive Jez Moxey and Rachel Heyhoe-Flint, PR Executive for the club visited Compton Hospice yesterday (NOTE: Wednesday, July 13) to present a cheque for more than £3,000.
The money was raised at a tribute dinner for Sir Jack Hayward in April, which saw more than 300 VIPs, including Steve Bull and fellow legends Alex Ray and Doug Ellis, attend the Molineux stadium for the event.
Celebrities, including Jasper Carrott, Gary Lineker and Beverley Knight who couldn’t make it on the night were present via video link to deliver their tribute messages to Mr Hayward.
Jez Moxey said: “Sir Jack has never been one to accept the limelight and he refused to allow a party in his honour unless it could benefit the local community in some way.
“At his request, we raised money for three local charities through ticket sales, an auction and a raffle.”
Among the auctioned items were a trip to the Bahamas and signed Wolves memorabilia.
A total of £10,000 raised has been shared between the Beacon Centre for the Blind, St Anthony’s Cheshire Home in Penn and Compton Hospice, who were the first to receive their cheque.
Tracy Marsh, head of fundraising and communications at Compton Hospice said: “We are absolutely delighted with this generous donation and have many plans for the hospice over the next 12 months that will see the money put to good use.
“Our role here is to provide people with a suitable place to lead as long and fulfilling a life as possible.
”We are very proud of the service we offer, which includes day and full time placements where patients can enjoy therapy and beauty treatments, art and craft activities as well as access counselling and first rate nursing care.”
Mr Moxey added: “Staff at Compton Hospice do sterling work. They are tremendous in the way they try to make peoples lives better and if there’s anything that we can do to help, then we will.”
