Local firm raises money for Compton Hospice
A recent company golf day put the fun into fund-raising and as a result a cheque for £700 was presented to Wolverhampton’s Compton Hospice.
Employees from Novelis’ Wednesbury service centre were joined by customers from the automotive industry and colleagues and customers from the company’s plants in Rogerstone (South Wales) and Bridgnorth (Shropshire) at a golf day at Patshull Park at the end of August. A great day’s play was rounded off by a meal and evening entertainment, courtesy of the male section of The Chad Singers from Pattingham who performed their unique ‘Loose Impediments’, a golf cabaret full of fun with songs, sketches and banter, written and directed by their founder, John Fellows. But the Singers do much more than sing: those attending the golf day were so impressed by the group’s fund-raising efforts (as well as their singing) that they dug deep into their pockets. Together with matching funding from Novelis, a total of £700 was raised from the evening and awarded to The Chad Singers’ chosen cause, the Compton Hospice.
Accepting the cheque from Bob Green, director of Novelis Wolverhampton, Karen Bowyer, Corporate Fundraiser of Compton Hospice said: “We would like to thank Novelis and their customers for their donation, which will help meet the running costs of the Hospice. Company contributions are an important part of our fund-raising efforts and are much appreciated in our constant challenge to foot the £4.6 million annual running costs of the Hospice.” The Hospice treats over 500 patients at any one time, either in its 22 Bed Unit Hospice at home, or at its Day Care Centre. All patient care is free of charge and, with its holistic approach to treatment, helps patients and their families to live with a terminal illness.
