Wolverhampton companies take up the challenge

Nine teams from companies across Wolverhampton raised £6,000 for Compton Hospice by battling it out in a grueling outdoor pursuits challenge.

Jointly organised by the charity and Lawsons letting agency of Chapel Ash, the event on November 7 saw businesspeople from all walks of life, including Solicitors, Banks, Printers, property firms, and more, trying their hand at archery, shooting, abseiling and orienteering for the cause.

This year’s challenge followed the success of the inaugural event last November which raised £3,000. Both were held at the outdoor learning and development centre, Closer to the Edge, in Kinver.

The idea arose to kick-start a corporate partnership between Lawsons and Compton Hospice, while encouraging local companies to get together in an info rmal environment. Thanks to its popularity, it will now become a regular fixture on the hospice’s fundraising calendar.

Managing director of Lawsons, Sally Lawson , said: “We’ve found taking part in the physical challenges a unique way of linking with a wide range of people, from various industry sectors, and it has proved an extremely positive experience both personally and professionally.

“We’re also thrilled to have doubled the sponsorship this year for Compton Hospice and hope the trend continues.”

Karen Bowyer , corporate fundraiser at the hospice who also joined in the day’s events, said: “Everybody worked so hard to raise sponsorship and performed marvelously on the day - despite the cold.

“I’d like to say a big thank you and well done to everyone involved, and especially to Lawsons for their time in organising the day and their promise of continued support.

“It costs £5.2m to maintain the range of services we offer to people at the hospice and in the community - including day care, home nursing and bereavement support - and the backing of businesses in the region is invaluable in reaching this target.”

Companies taking part included We Buy Properties Fast, Hadens Solicitors, MTT (who participated in fancy dress!), NatWest, The EDM Group, DigiPrint and Lawsons.

Tildesley Tonks and DigiPrint sponsored the event.

The Natwest team finished the victors, taking the trophy and a week’s stay in a Spanish villa away with them, courtesy of Lawsons.

Plans are already underway for next year’s challenge which will again take place in early November.
