Wolverhampton professionals join forces for footie fundraiser

A group of Wolverhampton businesses recently got together to form their own major football tournament - the Wolverhampton Professionals World Cup!

Crombies Accountants & DBL Talbots Solicitors instigated the five-a-side tournament to support Compton Hospice.

In addition to teams put forward by Crombies & DBL Talbots, another sixteen teams met at Goals Soccer Centre, Dudley, on 5th July – including keen players from Higgs & Sons, George Green, FBC Manby Bowdler, Muras Baker Jones, Nicklins, Barclays, Birmingham Midshires, EFG Ashby London, Horwath Clark Whitehill, Butcher Woods, Electro Test Services, Angel Springs, and CEECO Fresh.

Higgs & Sons won the main World Cup trophy with DBL Talbots winning the Plate Competition.

Paul Kettle, of DBL Talbots, said “Everyone felt that the tournament was a great success and we hope to run it on an annual basis, rather than wait another 4 years for the next World Cup. To have raised monies for Compton Hospice was an added bonus and well worth the bruises suffered from our competitors “

The keenly fought event raised £300 for Compton Hospice and corporate fundraiser of the charity, Simon Cater, said: “It’s great to see this amount of support for a fundraising event and we are grateful to everyone for getting involved.

“Paul Kettle of DBL Talbots and Gareth Perrett of Crombies Accountants have worked really hard on our behalf to put the tournament together and I’m sure this will gain momentum if they look to make it an annual fixture.”

Any interested teams for next year should register with Paul Kettle on 01902 427561 or email paulkettle@talbotslaw.co.uk.
