Compton Choir end year on a high!

Compton Choir’s year finished on a high with their Christmas production of “Rumours of Angels” – an inspiring, uplifting composition by Graham Kendrick.  We were warmly welcomed by friends at Beckminster Methodist Church, which was a great venue for us, and over 400 guests came to support us over the two nights.

The first part of the evening saw audience participation in a lively rendition of the carol “Angels from the Realms of Glory” followed by an enjoyable mix of talent from members of the choir in song and poetry.

“Rumours” begins with the exuberant “Can You Believe It?” expressing amazement at the message “God with us – one of us!”, leading into thought-provoking pieces reflecting on the events and background of the Christmas story – from the worshipful “He is Here” to the joyful “Wake Up It’s Christmas Morning”, through gentle reflection to modern rap music – a really stirring collection of songs.  The production was perfect for the season of Advent, celebrating not only the coming of Jesus as a baby but also looking forward to His second coming, culminating in the glorious “White Horse” piece (with hardly a dry eye in the place!)

After another rousing carol, “Hark The Herald Angels Sing”, the evening finished with the Choir leading the audience in singing the catchy “Feliz Navidad” and wishing one another “A Merry Christmas” in Spanish!!

Many happy hours of rehearsing and much hard work put in by Fr Barry, Mike Sullivan and the Choir were well worth it, and of course it couldn’t happen without the huge amount of hard work ‘behind the scenes’ by staff, volunteers, and friends.  An amazing total of well over £2,000 was raised towards the Hospice Capital Appeal.

Both choir and audience thoroughly enjoyed the experience – some even saying that this production surpassed all the others so far!  Our next production is “The Witness”, watch our events page for details!
