Multi-million pound Compton Hospice contract awarded to regional firm
A Birmingham company has won a multi-million pound contract to carry out the building work for the redevelopment of Compton Hospice.
E Manton Ltd, based in Nechells in Birmingham, will carry out plans to completely redevelop the Wolverhampton hospice’s main in-patient unit, in Compton Road West, over the next 10 months. Work is expected to start in early August with completion due in May next year.
The work will see the creation of a state-of-the-art, 18-bedded, single-roomed in-patient unit, day care facilities along with areas for physiotherapy and other treatments. Hospice chiefs say the redevelopment will improve patient care by cutting waiting times, increasing the number of patients treated and providing modern facilities for both patients and relatives.
The hospice launched its Raise the Roof appeal in April to collect £1m from supporters towards the building work, the appeal has already raised more than £140,000.
In-patient facilities at the hospice were transferred to the Nuffield Hospital in Wolverhampton on July 1, with other facilities being transferred around the hospice site, to allow the work to take place.
Compton Hospice chief executive Ron Middleton said: “We’re delighted to appoint regional firm E Manton to carry out the redevelopment, the costs will be within our anticipated budget of £3.5m for the work.
“They are a long established and award winning firm who I’m sure will be able to deliver a fantastic job for the hospice, I’m extremely confident we’ll have a great relationship with them.”
Managing director of Manton’s Edward McMurray said: “As a regional building firm we’re delighted to be working with Compton Hospice, given the great work they do for the community in the region and their high standing across the Black Country.
“The contract will help to provide continued employment for our 70 staff at Manton’s as well as our sub-contractors which is a great result for the economy in the area,” he said.
