Hospice shops win the hat-trick
Staff at Compton Hospice's charity shops across the have scooped a hat-trick after winning a prestigious national award for the third year running.
Out of entrants from across the , Compton Hospice retained the title of Highest Average Profit per Shop at the Association of Charity Shops Conference held on July 2.
The award is aimed at charities running between 11 and 20 shops and came in way ahead of the runners up, with nearly double the profit per week going straight to hospice care.
General manager of the charity’s trading company, said the teams of workers at the shops thoroughly deserved the award and she is delighted for them.
“This is an incredible achievement,” she said. “And it’s good to show our shops’ supporters that the money they spend with us does make a real difference to the hospice’s income.
“Even after the cost of overheads and administration, we are raising nearly £1,000 per week to spend on maintaining the hospice’s services across the Black Country.
“The average profit of the second place runner up was £400 less, so we must be doing something right.
“It was amazing to retain the title last year but to hold on to it for three years running is fantastic. I’m extremely proud of our team of staff and volunteers.”
The award, presented by Comedienne Kate Hull Rodgers, will be circulated around the shops which cover Wombourne, Sedgley, Codsall, Brierley Hill, Stourbridge, Kinver, and Penkridge.
Chief Executive of Hospice, Ron Middleton, added: “This is a remarkable achievement and our trading company can feel very proud of themselves.
“They contribute around £½ million each year to our cause, supporting patients and families living with a life-limiting illnesses across the region.”
