Staffs store latest in chain

Compton Hospice is hoping to boost its fundraising efforts in Staffordshire even further with the opening of its latest charity shop in Penkridge.

The new store, in Boscomoor shopping centre, will be the hospice’s 15th outlet, and it is hoped, will raise up to £20,000 net profit for the charity in its first year of trading.

Workmen have completely refitted the unit in Wolverhampton Road ready for the official opening on March 23, which is due to attended by Mary Jones, Compton’s chairman, who will be retiring at the end of the month after 19 years in post.

It is hoped Mrs Jones will be joined by the incoming chairman, Frances Cooper, to help launch the new venture in style.

Head of Compton Hospice Trading Ltd, said she is confident the shop will be very well-supported, as though Wolverhampton-based, the hospice also cares for a large number of patients in surrounding areas, particularly in Staffordshire.

“Last year alone we provided over 1,000 homecare visits in Staffordshire - 135 of which were in Penkridge itself - with 600 daycare attendances too,” she said.

“Our charity stores are extremely important in terms of our fund-raising efforts, and I am sure the Penkridge shop will be a vital addition to our growing number of shops.”

The hospice is currently recruiting staff and volunteers to help run the Penkridge shop and would like to hear from anyone interested in getting involved.
