Day Care
A place of friendship and support, where patients can enjoy the company of people with similar experiences.
Our purpose-built day care unit has become a much sought-after facility by our patients.

Staffed by a team of auxiliary nurses, a diversional therapist, complementary therapists and volunteers, it offers a range of activities - practical, therapeutic and fun - in a warm and relaxed atmosphere.
The focus of care is on maximising quality of life, while offering our visitors access to the many professional services at the hospice.
Practical help
We understand how important it is for our patients to retain their independence and can offer professional advice and practical help to enable them to do that.
As well as treating their symptoms to aid movement and comfort, we can help them learn new life skills or regain abilities they have lost, develop coping strategies to live a fulfilling life in the community and regain confidence.
Whether it’s learning to use a computer to shop online, looking at finances and applying for benefits, or learning better communication skills, we have experts who can help.
Illness does not just affect the physical body. It can change a person’s self- image, emotional state and social status.
By offering access to social workers, counsellors and spiritual mentors, we can tackle these difficult issues together.

Therapeutic help
Our patients often find that having time out to focus on themselves can be therapeutic in itself.

Whether they want to get their hair done, have a manicure, talk to someone or just sit and reflect over a glass of sherry, patients’ wishes are most important to us.
There is also the opportunity to visit our physiotherapist or complementary therapists, who can offer real physical and emotional benefits, as well as one-to-one care and attention.

Fun
Visitors are often surprised by the positive and uplifting atmosphere in our day unit. There’s always a hubbub of conversation and laughter as people enjoy our activities.

There are a wide range of craft activities to get involved in - the end results of which can be sold to bring in much needed funds to the hospice.
We also invite entertainers into the day unit and our visitors can enjoy plays, magicians, music and more throughout the year.
Patients are also encouraged to take up our organised trips - from canal cruises to tea dances, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
