What Our Patients Say
The sensitive listening, prayer and care by the chaplains made all the difference in what was, for us, a very difficult situation.
A relative talking about the chaplaincy team at Compton Hospice
Absolutely wonderful. Very unexpected, despite a full explanation. Very warming and relaxing - fabulous.
Angela, patient talking about her complementary therapy treatment
Compton Hospice has been wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. It was lovely when they wheeled Micheal’s bed onto the terrace so we could enjoy the lovely grounds together.
Carol - her husband Micheal was an in-patient
Sarah, my granddaughter, has cared for me at my home for the last three years. She’s only 26 and at times she has been under a lot of pressure. Compton Hospice has been a fantastic support, providing respite and night care to give her a well deserved break.
Christopher - Hospice at home patient
I’m very glad I attended. Nobody can take my pain away but it did help to share my feelings, to be heard and understood.
Cindy, wife of patient talking about attending a bereavement support group
I don’t know what I’d do without it
Doreen, carer who accesses complementary therapy treatments through the hospice
I am so happy I contacted the service, you helped me a great deal. I didn’t think I would ever get over my loss. Day by day I manage, some days are good, some days are bad. Thank you very much for your support.
Family member talking about the bereavement support service
It was amazing how quickly she became a very important person in our lives.

It makes me feel special
Kamla, patient talking about her complementary therapy
At a very difficult time we needed respite care for Adam’s mum. Compton Hospice was there to help and support us. We will always be grateful.
Kate and Adam
It’s so different from hospital. You get more attention and everyone is really friendly.
Mani - daughter of inpatient
From the moment Compton Hospice took me and my wife under their wing, our lives changed completely. We went to Compton Hospice for a chair raiser. What we got was Jane, a clinical nurse specialist. She assessed our needs and offered us a full programme of support. A new drug therapy gave me back my mobility, a complementary therapy called Reiki has helped lift my depression and ease my pain, and I now go to the Day Unit every Tuesday. I used to see Jane every week, now I don’t need her so often, but it’s good to know I can still call her any time. I can really talk to Jane.
Michael - talking about the home nursing team at Compton Hospice
The staff are saints and I always enjoy my day with them.
Millicent, day unit patient
My dad died in your care having been treated like a king.
Mrs Woods
Having used the service for both myself and my daughter, I think it was a vital part of our grieving process, helping us both to deal with matters more easily and quickly.
Partner talking about receiving bereavement support
I thought people came here to die, but since arriving I’ve started living again.
Rob, day unit patient
I appreciated the non-judgemental approach of my visitor. She showed great empathy, which is so much more useful than sentimental sympathy. She encouraged me through the different stages of grieving and made me feel normal - for a grieving widow anyway.
