Training
The amount and type of training you receive as a volunteer will depend on the task you choose to undertake.
All volunteers receive two induction sessions but some roles require more intensive, ongoing training - especially if there is patient contact involved.
The reasons we train our volunteers are:
- To ensure our volunteers understand, and work in line with, the values of the hospice
- To ensure volunteers are comfortable, confident and adequately prepared for their role
- To look after the interests of our patients
- To provide the best service possible to our users
The amount and type of training required for a position will be outlined before you make any commitment to the hospice.
Working with patients
All volunteers having contact with patients or their families will be subject to a Criminal Records Disclosure. Volunteers working directly with patients must be 18 years of age or over. Mandatory training is provided for: Back Care; Fire Lecture; Food & Hygiene; and "A Way With Words" (if any patient contact). All training is provided free if relevant to role
