Light Up A Life
Celebrate the special lives of your loved ones – and help Compton give local patients and their families a Christmas to remember.
Each year, just before Christmas, the local community comes together for our Light up a Life service. You are invited to attend this event to celebrate and dedicate a light on our Christmas tree to the special people in our lives who are no longer with us – but who we’ll always remember.
Light up a Life marks the beginning of the festive season at Compton; it gives us the time and space to honour the people we love so much in a very beautiful and dignified way. It’s always an uplifting event with smiles and laughter; but it’s alright to shed a tear as together we share the memories of those dear to us.
This year’s Light up a Life celebration will take place on 3rd December at 3.30pm at 4 Compton Road West, Wolverhampton, WV3 9DH and brings together family and friends to remember loved ones by dedicating a light in their memory. Please note there is disabled parking on site for blue badge holders only. For all other vehicles, parking is available on Wolf Mountain Climbing Centre, Paget Road, Wolverhampton, WV6 0DU, with a shuttle bus service to the hospice. Please also note that this is an outdoor, standing event which lasts around 45 minutes; please ensure you wear clothing and footwear appropriate to the season. There will also be refreshments to enjoy during and after the event.
On behalf of the entire team here at Compton, we sincerely hope you can join us for this wonderful event.
With Christmas approaching, we also want to ask, if you feel able, to make a gift to help us deliver care to local people at this most important time of year.
Our patients can’t be cured of their illnesses, but at Compton it is our goal to enable everyone we meet to live life as fully as they can, with whatever time they have left. That’s why Christmas can be an especially poignant milestone. For many, it may be their last chance to celebrate and make lasting memories with their family.
One patient who was cared for by Compton at Christmas was Jean. For Alan, her husband, it was comforting to know that Jean’s symptoms were being managed but, importantly, that they could be together on Christmas Day.
Alan commented: "I remember Christmas because they told us we could have Christmas dinner - and I thought 'yes please!' They gave us a delightful three-course meal and at least we were together that day. Light up a Life is going into my calendar this year; I'm sure it will be meaningful to me - and hopefully for you too."
Throughout the Christmas period, a Tree of Light stands proudly in the grounds of Compton Hospice. Hundreds of lights shine from the tree, each one dedicated to the memory of loved ones lost. From the ‘Type of Donation’ menu please select ‘Light Up a Life’ and complete the name(s) of those you would like to donate in memory of and please write a short dedication (no more than 10 words).
